Member Groups

We understand that not every ride group wants to become a formal club with a committee and official structure. That's why we offer the RSA Group Program which is a locally based collective of RSA Members that promote recreation (leisure/ pleasure) rides and interact through RSA external and internal social media outlets. RSA Ride Groups work together to support the operation and objectives of the RSA and to engage with fellow riders in organised activities

RSA Members are welcome to attend any RSA approved recreation event, whether it's promoted by an RSA Ride Group that is local to you or a different group elsewhere in the country. Members can start an RSA Ride Group, or join a that's closest to them or they can belong to the same Ride Group as family or friends.

RSA Ride Groups must NOT charge accountable fees for fellow members to attend an RSA Ride Group activity. If a Group needs to charge attendance fees and requires a bank account, then the Group should consider establishing an RSA Subsidiary Club.

An RSA Ride Group is most suited for:

  • organisers of group recreation rides involving motorcycles that are registered, ie. road registered adventure, road, scooter, trail, trike, etc; or conditional/ recreational registered ATV, UTV, etc.
  • organisers of group recreation rides involving cycles (mono cycle, bicycle, tricycle, quadricycle, etc).

For example, the staff of a motorcycle shop or bicycle shop that are a current RSA Rider Member and are registered as a volunteer RSA Event Organiser, can register an RSA Ride Group and organise group participation events sanctioned by the RSA for their customers. The participants of such events do NOT need to be RSA Members but are required to complete a free temporary membership application and sign in wet ink so they agree to the event terms and conditions, and liability release waiver. All of this paperwork can be an administrative burden to the ride organiser, however if riders preregister as an RSA Recreation Rider Member for just $40 per year all they have to do on ride day is 'sign on' to the rider register. The same goes for organisers of motorcycle or bicycle trips that lead their mates and fellow enthusiasts on recreation rides, whether on road or off road.

The main point of an RSA Ride Group is that the volunteers involved will benefit from Organisers’ Liability cover for up to $20m. This will cover RSA officials, ride leaders, sweeps, event organisers and other volunteers against any claims made against them while carrying out their volunteer roles. Learn more about the need for Organisers Cover in our Insurance Guide for RSA Event OrganisersAll RSA Ride Groups are  entitled to create an in-house social group page on the RSA website.
